Walla Walla Fire District Asks for Support to Raise Levy

Walla Walla County Fire District No. 8 is reaching out to voters in the Dixie area for a levy lid lift in the upcoming Nov. 5 general election, seeking to increase its levy to $1.10 per $1,000 of valuation from the current $0.66. This adjustment aims to address the financial shortfall caused by levy compression, a situation exacerbated by state law capping annual levy increases at 1%, regardless of inflation rates and rising property values. The proposed lift is a one-time measure intended to maintain current services and to replenish the district's depleted rainy-day fund, with hopes of resuming a five-year replacement plan for its aging wildland firefighting fleet. Fire Chief Bob Clendaniel emphasizes the critical need for this adjustment to sustain the district's operations and to begin replacing vehicles that are over 30 years old and subjected to harsh, off-road conditions.

Thousands of Washingtonians start their day with Good Day Walla Walla

“Reading the newsletter has become a really positive daily habit for me. I read it while drinking my coffee and planning the day. It saves me a ton of time, but it's really enjoyable too. It's great to have the news filtered down to just a handful of critical events everyday that actually matters to me. I also like reading the community profiles. They interview people locally like teachers, politicians, and small business owners. It's hard to find this anywhere else.”

“I'm a senior citizen here in Walla Walla, and this newsletter is like a lifeline. I don't have the attention span these days to read the paper, and Facebook is a mess. This newsletter keeps me informed, without taking the whole day from me.”

“I like how this newsletter keeps me connected with our community. It's great to have a dedicated source that focuses on what's going on locally. So many news companies are focused on huge attention-grabbing national headlines. But, besides the entertainment value, it's not really relevant to my day-to-day. Also it's great the newsletter is free.”

“I'm a parent, and it's apparent how busy that makes me. I LOVE newspapers (especially the smell), but I never have time to read it anymore. So thank god this newsletter exists, and I can read it in a few minutes. If anything is really critical or catches my eye, I can always spend more time reading into each piece of news, but it isn't usually necessary.”
