- ➤ Edison Elementary teacher Erika Helm saved a student from choking earlier this month using the Heimlich maneuver — earning her a Coin of Excellence from Superintendent Ben Gauyan at a recent staff meeting. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ Walla Walla Community College has received over $75,000 from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to support armed forces members + their families in completing CDL certification. Funds are available now and will run through Sept. 2028 for eligible students. Union-Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A case of whooping cough was confirmed in Walla Walla County, prompting health officials to advise anyone with cough, runny nose or fever to seek care immediately; they noted that the contagious illness poses extra risks to infants, pregnant people + those with pre-existing conditions. - ➤ Walla Walla High School will honor its 1984 girls basketball champions on Saturday, Feb. 7 by awarding a special trophy (42 years after their state title win). The ceremony will bring together team members for a long-awaited reunion. Union-Bulletin
