COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Walla Walla offers a full schedule of community events including a Girls’ Night Out, an annual book sale, a wine and dine fundraiser for Little League, a Seed Swap, and Bingo for shelter pets. Activities run from Feb. 20–23 at local venues.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Feb. 12 the state Senate passed a bill requiring school board directors to get trained in school finances; the measure, prompted by Prescott School District’s financial struggles, directs regional educational service districts to provide closer oversight and support to troubled schools.  Union-Bulletin
  • Whitman College is hosting its annual Power and Privilege Symposium from Feb. 16 through Feb. 20 to explore belonging in spaces shaped by power — keynote speaker Raquel Willis will deliver her address today at Reid Campus Center, with additional sessions planned for later this week.  Union-Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boardman Fire Rescue District received a $30,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation on Feb. 17 to build a permanent helipad at its fire station, replacing a soccer field that becomes unusable in winter. The new helipad will boost rapid medical evacuations + support emergency response in all conditions.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Governor Bob Ferguson has proposed a sales tax holiday and expanded Working Families Tax Credits if the millionaires' tax passes, which could return $141 million to families and ease the B & O tax for 170,000 small businesses by waiving part of the tax on revenue up to $2.5 million.  Apple Valley News Now
