- ➤ Shoppers thronged the 61st annual AAUW book sale at the Marcus Whitman Hotel — over 280 people passed through its doors on Friday. Running until Sunday, the sale offers books, DVDs, CDs, and collectibles while funding girls' scholarships through local volunteer efforts. Union-Bulletin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Waitsburg Elementary held the annual Kids Heart Challenge on Friday, Feb. 13 at the high school gym, where students from kindergarten to sixth grade joined fun activities (jumping rope, hula-hooping, bowling, and basketball) and raised more than $3,000 for the American Heart Association. - ➤ The Washington State Order of the Eastern Star is accepting applications for two nursing scholarships and an award for religious leadership that help cover tuition and book costs — all entries must be submitted by May 1. Waitsburg Times
- ➤ Waitsburg High School senior Karissa Potts signed enlistment papers to join the Navy and will attend nine weeks of boot camp on June 29; she prepared through Navy Delayed Entry Program meetings and honed skills in school and self-taught stick welding (using her dad’s shed equipment).
