  • The Union-Bulletin has opened vendor booth applications for Fourth of July in the Park on July 4 at Pioneer Park. Organizers are seeking local businesses to sponsor extra entertainment as they celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.  Union-Bulletin

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pacific Power is selling its Washington utility operations, affecting nearly 140,000 customers in Yakima and Walla Walla, to Portland General Electric (PGE) for $1.9 billion, with regulatory approval expected to take 12 months and current rates and staffing remaining unchanged.  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Waitsburg Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 21, Alexis Jones was crowned Waitsburg Celebration Days Queen during a coronation that introduced a new royalty court and raised about $6,000 (supporting upcoming local parades and rodeos).  Waitsburg Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CTUIR is restoring 450 acres along the Touchet River, with active excavation on a mile of floodplain for three months and plans to repurpose wood on two additional miles starting in summer to create fish-friendly blockages. The project (improving salmon habitat) is funded by state and federal agencies.  Union-Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • A Waitsburg second and third grade boys basketball team has been competing in the Small Schools Little League since Jan. 10 with games on Saturdays in Dayton, Asotin, Pomeroy and Lewiston. Coached by Abby Grende, the team will wrap up their season in Lewiston tomorrow.  Waitsburg Times
