- ➤ Construction has begun on a new 250 acre insulation factory at Wallula Gap Business Park that will create 125 permanent jobs when it opens in 2028 & above ground work is set to start later this year. Union-Bulletin
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Weller Library Board has arranged a new art display featuring six donated canvases painted by local artist Lane Gwinn, with paintings of authors shown above the main room bookshelves through November and a silent auction planned to benefit the library. Waitsburg Elementary students will soon create their own series depicting favorite books. Waitsburg Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Wilson, a Waitsburg High School senior, won first place in FFA’s Poultry Production contest and will receive her award at the State Convention in May—she runs Bowhay’s Tiny Raptors with her grandmother and now advances to Nationals. Waitsburg Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Walla Walla County Conservation District is exploring other funding sources after a federal grant for a fish habitat project was paused below the Touchet River (district manager Annie Byerley warned that without new funds soil erosion might increase), which could limit farming access. Union-Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Waitsburg City Council met on March 18 and approved plans to convert the ice rink into a skate park for spring through fall, using portable ramps (valued at about $10,000 from FreshPark) that can be later modified into permanent features if needed. Waitsburg Times
