- ➤ Blue Mountain Humane Society has planned several events to raise funds for shelter operations and pet care in the Walla Walla Valley. The society will host a treasure hunt on April 5 from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., a bingo night on April 14 at Big House Brew Pub at 7 p.m., a fundraiser at Balboa Winery on April 26, a Dog Jog on May 25 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, plant sales in mid-June and the Fall Furr Ball on Oct. 18—each event will support its animal welfare programs. - ➤ Nine middle school students from the Walla Walla Valley will compete in a local National Civics Bee on Saturday, April 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Walla Walla Community College (500 Tausick Way Building E) for a chance to move on to the statewide round and win prizes including $500 for first place.
