Blue Mountain Action Council announced that its Walla Walla mobile food pantry at 921 W.
Cherry St. will close after Thursday, April 24—due to budget cuts and canceled federal contracts. The organization will continue operating its food bank and other programs—supporting local pantries with food distribution.
🏛️ Government
Walla Walla County Fire District 4 announced the retirement of Fire Chief Rocky Eastman after a 34-year career in fire service—20 of which he served as chief.
During his tenure he added basic and advanced life support and emergency medical transport, started a dozer program to create firebreaks during wildfires, and began a duty officer rotation to reduce firefighter burnout—his retirement event was held on March 31.
The Washington Senate passed a bill that will raise hunting and fishing fees if approved by the House—raising a resident license fee for deer, elk, bear, and mountain lion from $97.50 to $117.30 with changes taking effect July 1.
Seniors 70 and older will pay a reduced fee with an estimated 66% discount.
