CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla police reported that gang violence declined while drug overdoses and seizures of methamphetamine and Suboxone nearly doubled since 2023. Officials noted that fentanyl overdoses are increasing in public spaces — prompting naloxone training sessions to help reduce overdose deaths. Union-Bulletin
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Walla Walla can plan to watch the rare micro full Pink Moon on April 13th when it rises from the eastern horizon at open or high spots, and the moon gets its name from the blooming pink creeping phlox (Phlox subulata) even though it will not truly appear pink. KONA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials are reviewing a proposal to update middle housing codes to meet state requirements set by (House Bill 1110) and public comments are accepted until (Friday, April 25). The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 5 and the City Council will review the updates later this month. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ The City of Waitsburg sold its old city hall building for $130,000 on April 7 and Chet Childers—a distressed building renovator—now owns the historic Main Street building. He plans to follow city zoning rules to create a multi-use project and is working with partners to shape his ideas. Waitsburg Times
- ➤ Columbia County officials considered options to add solar farm rules to the development code after several companies showed interest but no formal applications were received. They plan to use parts of the commercial wind energy standards and may pause solar projects until clear guidelines on setbacks and height limits are set. Union-Bulletin
