BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation received a $150,000 grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust to supply culturally relevant reading materials for young students, while Walla Walla Public Schools will begin a $1.3 million project to upgrade indoor and outdoor lighting at Edison, Sharpstein and Green Park Elementary this spring with work finishing during summer break—the P.E.O. Sisterhood Walla Walla chapter will host a vintage fashion show fundraiser on Saturday, May 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. to raise money for women’s scholarships with tickets at $35 plus a $4.19 service charge.  Union-Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Port of Walla Walla approved a $2M plan on March 27th to upgrade the Burbank high dock—improving roads, lighting, and electric facilities for both industrial use and future river cruise passengers. The project will boost tourism as American Cruise Lines and other rental partners work with local groups to offer transportation into downtown and to the museum.  Union-Bulletin
