COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Founder Karen Carman will soon step down as executive director of Hope Street, a nonprofit women’s recovery home in Walla Walla, as the board starts interviewing candidates to find a leader by June (the move comes as the organization’s strong community support grows).  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • The nonprofit Gesa Power House Theatre is hosting its 2026 Power Up online silent auction until Saturday, April 18 for a ticket offering a private watch party for 12 during the Seahawks’ home opener; drawing is set for 7 p.m. on April 18 — proceeds support the theatre’s artistic programs.  Union-Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city council has halted the $16 million library renovation after the only bid came in $800,000 over budget. A second call for bids began today and construction is now set to start in June 2026 with the project to finish by summer 2027.  Apple Valley News Now
  • CTUIR officials announced nearly $7 million is secured to upgrade fish hatchery facilities near Milton-Freewater, Irrigon, and Walla Walla. Work will begin when funds are transferred — some projects are expected to finish within a year.  Apple Valley News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Life Flight Network hangar opened at Walla Walla Airport this week to cut emergency response times to eight minutes. The facility is a joint effort with the Port of Walla Walla and local partners (it offers 24/7 helicopter standby service for southeast Washington and northeast Oregon).  Apple Valley News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • MC Gateway LLC has proposed a 355-acre planned community with 670 homes, a 150-room hotel, and 80,000 sqft of commercial space (located east of Walla Walla Community College) with public comments open until 5 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 23.  Union-Bulletin
