BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Port of Walla Walla extended the lease for TowerCo 2013 LLC at 587 E. Cessna Ave—who has operated near the airport since 2005—to include new terms starting in June 2026 that will raise the monthly rent from $1,209 to $2,088 by June 2040.  Union-Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Washington moved up from 37th to 34th in the ALEC “Rich States, Poor States” report but still faces high tax and labor costs. The report uses 15 measures to check economic outlook — a study that shows strong points in some areas while overall challenges remain.  KONA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington Senate approved a bill that requires gun buyers to obtain a five-year state permit, which includes finishing a certified safety course & paying a fee before purchasing a firearm. The measure passed on a party-line vote and now returns to the House for review and may take effect in May if enacted.  Union-Bulletin
  • The Washington Senate passed House Bill 1596 on Tuesday, requiring drivers who have lost their licenses due to speeding from reckless behavior to install a device that limits their car to the posted speed limit—drivers can exceed the limit only up to three times per month. The bill, titled The BEAM Act in memory of four crash victims, will return to the House for amendments before moving to the governor.  Apple Valley News Now
