- ➤ Two split groups from the Dayton Days nonprofit are holding separate rodeos on Memorial Day weekend following a board dispute. The Dayton Days/Columbia County Fair Association Jackpot Rodeo will take place at the Columbia County Fairgrounds from 6 p.m. Friday, May 23 to 1 p.m. Saturday while Let’s Get Wild & Western’s Shamrock Rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick. - ➤ Tickets are on sale for the YWCA Walla Walla annual fundraiser luncheon on April 30 at noon at the Marcus Whitman Hotel (6 W. Rose St.), where U.S. Assistant District Attorney Bree Black Horse will speak about prosecuting violence against Indigenous people. The $50 tickets will be available until April 23 and proceeds will support local YWCA programs. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Twenty Waitsburg High School FFA students will attend the FFA State Convention at Washington State University in Pullman from May 8th to May 10th after qualifying at District Leadership in Asotin on March 26th — they secured their spots by excelling in several contests. Waitsburg Times
- ➤ A special fundraiser is running through midnight April 30 to raise $7,000 for Walla Walla High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Blue Devil Army Battalion cadets. Donors may choose from product options (popcorn, taffy, gluten-free baking mixes, coffee beans, custom apparel, beef jerky and meat sticks) or donate directly (supporting the cadets’ spring Military Ball dinner on May 17 and the purchase of uniforms and equipment). - ➤ The Columbia Conservation District asked the county commissioners on Monday, April 14, to lease the former planning and building office at 114 S. 2nd St. in Dayton — a move aimed to boost the District's profile and visitor access — as commissioners plan a public hearing next week on surplusing the building. - ➤ On Monday, the House approved a bill that would require producers to pay for recycling packaging and paper—this measure now goes to the Senate for a vote before it can become law. Some waste management experts warn the plan may raise consumer prices even as it aims to improve recycling access and be fully in effect by 2030. KONA
