  • Trilogy Recovery Community in Walla Walla is hiring a new executive director as Kate Morrison announced she will step down—her last day is May 2. The nonprofit is accepting applications and will give priority to those submitted by 5 p.m. May 2.  Union-Bulletin
  • Tomorrow and Sunday, Take Back Weekend will let residents safely dispose of unused medication, old cell phones or computers, documents, and sharps at designated sites. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walla Walla Police Department at 54 E. Moore St. + at the Walmart parking lot at 1700 SE Meadowbrook St. in College Place.  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 3, the P.E.O. Chapter CN will present 'The Way We Were,' a vintage fashion show from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Walla Walla Country Club to raise funds for its scholarship programs — doors open at 1:30 p.m.  Waitsburg Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four high school seniors from Waitsbrug are gearing up for new paths after graduation—Lambert will start Naval boot camp in July before training as a Master of Arms in Texas, Jones plans to attend Walla Walla Community College to pursue paralegal studies, Selph will become a full-time caregiver for his uncle with CPR training, and Hollingsworth will continue her studies on a path toward a teaching career. Their senior portraits capture each student’s distinct plan as they prepare to move forward beyond high school.  Waitsburg Times
  • Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal and Senate Minority Leader John Braun debated Engrossed House Substitute Bill 2049 during a Wednesday public hearing—focusing on changes to school funding and local levies. The bill passed the House with a 58—40 vote and is set for an executive session today at 1:30 p.m. before the Senate Ways & Means Committee.  KONA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manager Esther Click of WESCOM said officials plan to use a 0.2% sales tax to fund hiring three new dispatchers and upgrade radio equipment at the Walla Walla dispatch center—ensuring the service remains efficient and relieves fee burdens on local agencies. The proposal is backed by the County Board of Commissioners and will be on the ballot in August if deadlines are met.  Union-Bulletin
