GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla has requested a meeting with FEMA officials and is drafting a letter signed by Mayor Tom Scribner to address the end of the BRIC program and to protect funding for its $500,000 watershed resiliency plan—designed to improve water facilities in the Mill Creek watershed. City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain said officials from the city, county and port will travel to Washington, D.C. from today to May 1 to discuss the future of hazard mitigation funding. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ The WA Department of Fish and Wildlife has updated fishing rules for fresh and salt water—anglers must follow the new guidelines on keeping and handling their catch to fish legally. Anglers are advised to consult the pamphlet on the Department's website for the complete details. KONA
- ➤ Washington lawmakers approved a 38% fee hike for hunting and fishing licenses that will take effect on July 1—raising fees by over $16 and increasing a big game package from $85 to $117.30 while seniors receive a 66% discount, a move critics say could challenge families who rely on hunting for food. - ➤ Lawmakers in the House Transportation Committee advanced a revised transportation bill that raised the gas tax by 6 cents and diesel by 6 cents to fund the Motor Vehicle Fund and local projects. The full House was to complete its review before the session ended on Sunday, April 27 — if unfinished, Gov. Bob Ferguson might have called a special session to complete the process. KONA

- ➤ Costco in Washington is recalling eight salsa varieties made by San Juan Salsa Co — the recalled products, produced with supplies used between January 21st and May 23rd, may contain small wood particles. Customers are advised to check their stocks and dispose of any affected salsa as a precaution. KONA
