  • Walla Walla community leaders gathered at the Courtyard by Marriott for an inspiring Women in Business luncheon featuring a sold-out screening of The Empowerment Project and a dynamic discussion among local business, government and education representatives—sharing personal journeys and alternative career paths. The Chamber will hold its After Hours: Summer Series on Wednesday, May 21 and its annual State of the State luncheon on Thursday, June 26 with local legislators.  Union-Bulletin
  • Exchange Club of Walla Walla will host its annual Ducky Derby near the baseball fields at Walla Walla Community College on Saturday, May 17 starting with a 5K Duck Dash and 1-mile waddle at 8:30 a.m.—the Family Fun Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include a noon duck race—offering prizes worth more than $20,000.  Union-Bulletin

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Amanda L. Wolf, a 50-year-old Burbank resident, died when her car crashed head-on into a semi-truck on Highway 124 in Walla Walla County on May 10 at about 11:50 a.m.—officials said the truck driver, Bachitar Singh of Santa Clara, suffered injuries but was not taken to a hospital.  Union-Bulletin

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Baker Boyer Bank has restarted several ATMs—at Eastgate, Plaza, and Milton-Freewater—after an April shutdown to investigate vandalism and cash theft. The bank's downtown main office ATM is being upgraded and will operate soon.  Union-Bulletin
  • Tucannon Tavern, formerly Walla Walla Pasta Factory, is undergoing minor renovations in downtown under new owners Drew Westermeyer and Daniel and Robert Jacobs—updating its name, menu, and bar while keeping its family staff intact. The restaurant will open daily at 11 a.m. with extended hours on weekends at 13 E. Main St.  Union-Bulletin

  • After windy conditions forced canceling of Thursday's Kids’ Day tethered flights, pilots launched balloons on May 9 at Howard-Tietan Park with a 12-inch pibal signaling calm winds. The 49th annual Stampede continues today—drawing local families and visitors—while colorful flights lift spirits across the park.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Walla Walla Public Schools Foundation is offering an adult Funders Field Trip to raise $30,000 to support outdoor educational programs after state cuts reduced overnight field trips for fifth and ninth graders. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Water + Environmental Center on the community college campus at 500 Tausick Way and costs $30, which includes a boxed lunch and hands-on learning stations.  Union-Bulletin
