- ➤ Rite Aid announced it will close several stores in Washington and Oregon as part of its second bankruptcy filing in less than two years—affected Washington locations include stores in Snoqualmie, Kingston, Yelm, Anacortes, Granite Falls and Omak, and customers have until June 6th to use gift cards and other benefits. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Athena-Weston School District is asking for community input on a new capital bond proposal that will update school facilities and change grade configurations—residents can share their thoughts at open houses on June 3 and June 10, and the board will decide at its Aug. 11 meeting whether to put the proposal on the November ballot. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla Fire District No. 4 and several other agencies held a mass casualty drill at the Regional Airport on May 12, using Tri-Tech paramedic students as simulated patients and colored tarps to show injury levels—an exercise required by the FAA. The drill showed improved teamwork among first responders and will be reviewed in an after-action report in the coming weeks. Union-Bulletin
