- ➤ Mast Year Cider is set to bottle its 2024 vintage cider and expand into local tasting rooms—such as downtown at Tavern Ancestrale—to offer naturally fermented, region-labeled ciders. The cidery began production in 2023 at Blue Mountain Station in Dayton and uses local apple foraging to create a drier, European-style drink. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ Four local organizations—Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, Gesa Power House Theatre, Mokuhanga Project Space, and the Walla Walla Valley Disability Network—received part of about $515,000 in quarterly grants from Wildhorse Foundation, which awarded funds to 40 groups across Washington and Oregon. The Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its annual State of the State Luncheon on June 26 at 11:30 a.m., where state legislators from District 16 will answer pre-submitted questions. - ➤ Walla Walla Summer Theater lowered its remodel budget for the historic Fort Walla Walla Amphitheater to $8 million and added three new board members. - ➤ Walla Walla’s City Council will hold a workshop on Tuesday, May 27, where U.S. Forest Service officials will present plans for logging, thinning, and prescribed burns in the Mill Creek Watershed that supplies most of the city’s water. The plan calls for thinning work to begin this year outside the watershed while commercial logging in the Tiger-Mill project area will start later, and opponents worry the measures could compromise water quality — prompting them to consider litigation.
