- ➤ YWCA Walla Walla raised nearly $97K at its 26th Leadership Luncheon on April 30 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel to support programs for domestic violence survivors and its state-licensed childcare centers. Interim Director Liz Swanson said additional gifts are still arriving while the board—planning new fall fundraising ideas and a search for a permanent director—works to maintain essential services. - ➤ Touchet Friends of the Library invite community members to add items and anecdotes for a time capsule that will be buried at the new library on June 6 — submissions must be delivered by June 4. The capsule will be opened 25 years later to share stories of today with future generations. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Elaine and Mike Vandiver of Old Homestead Alpacas began their 2025 fiber harvest with 27 alpacas—shearing each one to keep the animals healthy and to gather fiber for knitwear, dryer balls and other products. The process includes professional shearing, toenail trimming, cleaning off debris and administering vaccines—then shipping sorted fiber to a Minnesota mill for processing and sale in early fall. - ➤ On May 29, a crew from Columbia Rail laid new track at Fort Walla Walla Museum and moved the antique Blue Mountain locomotive for the first time in 115 years to boost its railroad exhibit. The project will soon add a permanent cover, a walkway, and interpretive signs — key updates in time for the railroad’s 150th anniversary celebration on Oct. 25. Union-Bulletin
