CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown streets and areas near Pioneer Park will close on June 3 for a national production filming Firestone Tires commercials, and on June 4 Division Street and Sasayama Drive will close (coordinated by Film Walla Walla Valley) as local services expect a boost (from increased spending on hotels and restaurants).  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College Place School District's new 10,000 sqft field house is nearing completion behind the high school, and officials say it will open this fall for student sports with a ribbon cutting planned in August.  Union-Bulletin
  • Walla Walla Public Schools received $601,756 in state funding to install a 125.1 kW solar array that will generate about 134,627 kWh annually and lower utility costs for its 18 electric buses by one-third, with installation set to begin during summer break + complete before next school year.  Apple Valley News Now
