CULTURE NEWS

  • A conversation between artists, researchers and environmental experts will take place on Sunday, June 8 from 2:30–3:30 p.m. at the Walla Walla Community College Water and Environmental Center — 640 Water Center Drive — where experts discuss water balance and environmental challenges using Mokuhanga techniques. A reception for the Watermarks exhibition will follow from 4–6 p.m. at Foundry Vineyards Gallery — 1111 Abadie St. — featuring work by 12 artists created during local Mokuhanga residencies.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Walla Walla Public Schools is set to launch its new electric school bus fleet Monday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m.—the fleet includes 18 buses, six with wheelchair lifts, and is funded by a $3.7 million EPA grant plus $1 million from the state Department of Ecology to reduce fuel costs and promote clean transportation.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Education leaders from other states came to Walla Walla last week to watch the special education residency program in action at Pioneer Middle School and learn how apprentices gain hands-on experience in special ed classes. When the current cohort finishes this summer, Walla Walla Public Schools will add four full-time special education teachers who are required to stay for at least three years—addressing a teacher shortage that others want to copy.  Union-Bulletin
