COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On June 4, the Walla Walla Public Library held an open house at 238 E. Alder St.—the event displayed new plans for interior updates, a glass great hall, and expanded study and children’s areas based on community input. The project is estimated at $16 million with $10 million raised so far and will seek permits before construction begins in spring 2026.  Union-Bulletin
  • On June 3, 2024, Walla Walla Union-Bulletin journalists won seven awards in the SPJ Region 10 contest — beating other regional publications in categories like feature photography, print page design, and environmental reporting. The wins included honors for photographer Greg Lehman, special publications editor Kathleen Ballard, and reporters Hannah McIntyre and Loryn Kykendall.  Union-Bulletin

CRIME NEWS

  • Two Walla Walla brothers—aged 27 and 17—were charged for two shootings on May 30; in one incident, a drive-by left a victim with a leg injury, and police are still searching for a third suspect.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Walla Walla Branch of AAUW raised $63,000 from a book sale and kitchen tour and awarded scholarships to 22 women for the 2025-2026 school year—this amount is a 30% increase from last year with six more scholarships given out.  Union-Bulletin
  • Walla High School Army JROTC held its 106th Pass in Review on May 21 at Trident Field — Cadet Col. Hannah Goin passed the battalion colors to Cmd. Sgt. Maj. Tony Marrero who then gave them to Cadet Lt. Col. Sofie Edwards, marking the change of command. Delta Company earned top honors for its marching precision as a reviewing officer noted the cadets’ alignment and discipline.  Union-Bulletin

  • Future 42 released a scorecard on Wednesday that shows how lawmakers voted on key bills in the 2025 session involving public safety, paid sick leave, rent limits, and business taxes. The report gives voters a way to see how their representatives stand—helping them make choices at the ballot box.  KONA
