🏘️ Community
Residents enjoyed the library send-off party on Saturday, June 6, writing wishes on the walls and partying with bubbles and pizza before the remodel.
The library raised over $12.5 million + secured a $3 million loan; renovations at 238 E. Alder St. will start mid-June and finish in July 2027.
🎓 Education
On Saturday, June 6, Touchet High School graduated its Class of 2026, with graduates sharing memories and lessons learned (including success defined on their own terms).
Valedictorian Angelina Preciado urged her classmates to follow a path true to themselves rather than others' expectations.
Ten local seventh grade girls were awarded Tech Trek STEM scholarships by AAUW-Walla Walla to attend a weeklong STEM camp at Seattle Pacific University from July 12-18.
The camp, the largest group from the valley since 2015, covers most expenses except a $50 fee each family pays.
🏛️ Government
The Walla Walla Fire Department received a grant for $21,156 to buy a rescue utility terrain vehicle that will help crews reach patients in remote areas where regular trucks cannot go.
The department plans to operate the new off road vehicle by late summer (or fall) to support statewide wildfire responses.
