ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ This morning, firefighters battled the Hatch Grade Fire near Hatch Grade Road in Touchet, which burned between 1,800 and 2,000 acres—local crews are evacuating the Stateline Wind Farm—while resources work to contain the blaze. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ State fire officials sent three strike teams and air resources to help contain the Vansycle Canyon Fire that burned over 2,500 acres near Touchet while strong winds worsened smoke conditions and prompted evacuations from a gas compression facility along U.S. 12 — further safety actions are in progress. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla Emergency Services Communications will host a public information session at 5 p.m. Monday, June 16 at the Walla Walla Public Library, 238 E. Alder St—where workers will explain a proposed 0.2% sales tax to fund dispatch services and discuss its cost and effect on public safety with details available in English and Spanish. The proposed tax will appear on the Aug. 5 ballot. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ The city of Dayton reported that on Tuesday, June 10, its wastewater plant had a malfunction when its outdated communications system failed—officials are now seeking emergency funding to upgrade the system while SJ Environmental begins a two-month contract for maintenance and training. The plant is operating normally, and officials are testing the treated water before it is discharged into the Touchet River. Union-Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Comprehensive Healthcare in Walla Walla has opened a new walk-in clinic at 1520 Kelly Place that offers same-day addiction assessments for people with substance use disorders. Since mid-March, 204 patients have used the service—reducing wait times and starting treatment promptly as the community faces challenges from fentanyl use. Union-Bulletin
