Mother Charleen Kaaen and daughter Kirsten Brannon in Walla Walla have started front porch days by inviting neighbors to gather for lemonade and cookies.

Their gatherings aim to break down barriers between residents and spark friendly visits on warm days—helping to build local ties—across the neighborhood.

Daniel Tiger will visit Walla Walla Public Library on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where NW Public Broadcasting will lead a free Be My Neighbor event for young children — a separate cacti and succulent event with food tastings will run for older children and teens from 10 a.m. to noon.

This weekend in Walla Walla, residents will enjoy a June Festival at Frazier Farmstead Museum at 6 p.m. Saturday with live music and a silent auction—followed by a breakdancing contest at Heritage Square from 7 to 10 p.m. and a Fern Gully movie at Lions Park at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Fort Walla Walla Museum will host an Oregon Trail game and ice cream social from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring free ice cream, living history shows and interactive fun.

Gesa Credit Union awarded over $145,000 in scholarships this year to students across the region.

Local student Luke Christensen and three College Place high school interns each received $2,000—with Christensen recognized as a first-time college entrant and the others selected for the High School Credit Union Scholarship.

Walla Walla University held its graduation on Sunday, June 15, awarding nearly 300 students with associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees.
