Community Court is a new four-phase program in Walla Walla that began in January to help people with drug use avoid jail by requiring them to complete treatment and assessments.

Participants like Caitlin Guille and Michael Guzman—who have already progressed to later phases—are part of the first group, and court officials hope the program will reduce repeat crimes.

Walla Walla Police Department is receiving two grants from the Washington State Commerce Office to improve support for crime victims — one renews funding for its 18-year-old Crime Victim Service Center with a full-time advocate, and the other funds training for first responders to better assess domestic violence risk.
