- ➤ Laura Rose-Grabinski has joined Blue Mountain Humane Society as its new development director — she will lead fundraising, community engagement and events like the annual Dog Jog while using her nonprofit experience from an international piano trade show and local ties to strengthen support. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla Fire Department responded to 10 fires caused by fireworks from July 1 to July 5 that resulted in over $33,000 in property damage and $3,800 in overtime expenses, and one resident was hospitalized for a hand injury. Apple Valley News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Juan J. Rodriguez Meza was arrested on July 6 in connection to a College Place shooting and faces first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon—security footage led police to arrest the man he allegedly shot at on July 7 for attempted vehicular assault—and both suspects have bail set at $300,000. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Little Theatre of Walla Walla will host the youth production Fireside Fairy Tales on July 12th at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at its 1130 E. Sumach St. venue, where students from first to sixth grade act while older students work behind the scenes; the theatre also announced a new 2025-26 season that includes the Wine, Dine and Death benefit on Oct. 11 and upcoming shows in October, January, April and June. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore George B. Fearing ruled on July 7 that the City Council did not properly record its findings when denying a development plan for 257 homes so the council must reassemble written evidence. City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain said the city attorney’s office will prepare the findings for the council’s review at its July 23 meeting — ensuring proper process is followed. Union-Bulletin
