Southgate Center Market — a locally owned grocery store on S.
Second Ave — will close by the end of July or when its inventory sells out due to rising costs and changes in shopping habits. The store announced the closure and a storewide sale on Facebook on July 7.
Floating Balance Cellars is building a new tasting room from a storage container at 2104 Stateline Road, south of Walla Walla.
The tasting room will open early fall with hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and offers wine tastings, views of the Blue Mountains, and information about the vineyard (Aria Vineyard).
🌲 Environment
Staff at Walla Walla Community College’s Water & Environmental Center installed adhesive film dots on its glass windows to help prevent bird collisions that had caused up to 80-200 bird deaths each year.
Volunteers from the Blue Mountain Audubon Society recorded observations and applied the film on the most reflective sections last week of June—further work on higher windows will complete the project.
