- ➤ The Port of Walla Walla approved additional funding on July 10 to support transforming the decommissioned Waitsburg pool into a potential ice rink or skate park as part of its 2025 Economic Development Plan + the project requested $100,000 even though total costs are estimated between $121,000 and $125,000. City officials said they are finalizing logistics so the conversion will be completed in time for Hometown Christmas after the pool was filled in to meet a Health Department order. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ On June 14, firefighters battled a fast-spreading brush fire burning over 700 acres in a wheat field near a small Oregon community that moved north toward Walla Walla County—authorities evacuated two homes near Butler Grade and Vanscycle Roads and urged the public to steer clear of the area. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla Public Schools restarted a driver's education program after the local provider closed in 2023 and enrollment has grown 367% from 101 to 371 students using local levy funds and state education funding. The program offers 30-hour classroom instruction and 6-hour behind-the-wheel training so that eligible students can earn their driver's license. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Today, Taumarson Road between Peppers Bridge Road and Plaza Way is closed for several months for demolition, utility work, and the construction of a new roundabout at its intersection with Myra Road; city officials said the $12 million (Myra Road South Extension Project) will keep the road closed through fall while work begins in spring and ends by summer.
