EDUCATION NEWS

  • Veronica Esparza is named as the new executive assistant to Superintendent Ben Gauyan—she will replace Susie Golden when she retires on Aug 31st, and Esparza will assume the role on Sept 1st. A 1990 Walla Walla High School graduate with almost 20 years of district experience, she is set to support school operations going forward.  Union-Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 67,000 cases of Power Stick deodorant were recalled from Washington stores on July 10th because they may contain benzene — a known carcinogen, so shoppers should check their cabinets. Major retailers such as Walmart, Dollar Tree and Amazon are removing these products from their shelves.  KONA
  • Kayem Foods Inc. has recalled its ready-to-eat chicken sausage — labeled with lot code 179 and a USE/FRZ BY date of OCT 01 — after three consumers reported finding white plastic pieces in the product. Over 20,000 pounds made on June 28 are believed to be contaminated and customers should discard any items found.  KONA
