COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Weston Community Development Commission proposed painting a mural on the auto shop’s south wall at Main and Water streets—showing Weston’s heritage—and also painting boarded-up windows on two nearby buildings to refresh downtown. Dave Laufer said the projects will move forward once funding and property permissions are secured. Union-Bulletin
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A free shuttle will carry Alison Krauss concertgoers from Walla Walla Community College's 500 Tausick Way parking lot to Wine Country Amphitheater (201 E. Rees Ave) on Tuesday, July 22. The shuttle will start at 5 p.m., run in a loop until all riders are returned, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Union-Bulletin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Friends of the Pool Committee in Columbia County has received several grants to offer basic swim lessons and advanced lifeguard training after the public pool closed in 2017. It will fund bus rides to the Walla Walla YMCA pool and summer lessons at Prescott & expand the program with the Dayton School District next school year. Waitsburg Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal court blocked a Washington law that would have forced priests to share details from confession. The law—set to take effect on July 27—was challenged by church leaders who said it breaks the rule that priests keep confessions private. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Walla Walla County voters will decide on August 5 whether to approve Proposition 1, which would add a 0.2% sales tax to upgrade the emergency communications system and dispatch center. A yes vote will improve staffing and technology and support moving to a safer facility (near Mill Creek and the Hite Fault). Waitsburg Times
