  • Baker Boyer Bank matched $5,000 in donations to the BMAC Food Bank while Pacific Power Foundation gave grants to five local groups, including a $4,000 gift to Walla Walla Community College Foundation. Sherwood Trust Foundation named Toni Alvarado-Jackson as board president, Spokane Teachers Credit Union appointed Lindsey Myhre as new CEO, AgWest awarded a repair grant to the county fairgrounds, and the Confederated Umatilla Journal named Daneli Atilano as the new editor starting July 1 — local businesses show active support for community services.  Union-Bulletin
  • Today the Chamber of Commerce in Walla Walla is hosting a full summer slate of events that offer chances for business networking and community engagement. Highlights include the Solutions In-Home Care ribbon cutting on July 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at 1410 Plaza Way, the Conversations that Count forum on Aug 12 at noon at the Airport, the Chamber After Hours event with the Public Library on Aug 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the Tour D’Farm on Sept 20 and 21—showcasing our region’s agriculture.  Union-Bulletin
  • Local business owners Kaleigh Brook and Robert Gómez opened Tavern Ancestrale on Alder to offer a wine bar and classroom that teaches residents about wine, beer and other beverages. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Walla Walla Emergency Services Communications is asking voters to approve a 0.2% sales tax increase to update 911 systems and hire new dispatchers as old radio equipment is replaced. Ballots were mailed on July 18 and must be returned by Aug. 5—if approved, the funds will pay for backup systems and additional training.  Union-Bulletin
