  • Walla Walla, along with Kennewick, Prosser, and Umatilla, will host National Night Out—an event designed to boost community safety and strengthen law enforcement partnerships.  Apple Valley News Now
  • United Way of the Blue Mountains and P1FCU are hosting the Leaders for Readers fundraiser to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at the branch—1721 Dalles Military Road. Families can visit until Friday, Aug. 8 to register kids or donate—donations are matched by P1FCU up to $500.  Union-Bulletin
  • The Milton-Freewater municipal course on Catherine Street will host the 45th annual Elks Lodge golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 9, starting at 8 a.m.—the course will be closed to the public during the scramble—and then reopen at 1:30 p.m. Net proceeds will benefit the local Meadowood Speech and Hearing Camp.  Union-Bulletin
  • Walla Walla barber Jeremy Ley and local partners will host a free back-to-school event from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Valle Lindo community center, offering haircuts, backpacks, school supplies and meals from a food truck—organizers are seeking sponsors and donations by Friday, Aug. 8 to help cover costs.  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, Walla Walla Summer Theater shows Little Shop of Horrors at Gesa Power House Theatre on Friday, Aug 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug 9 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Aug 10 at 2 p.m. Runway Market and Sparkling Wine Bar offers muumuus and mimosas on Saturday, Aug 9 from noon to 4 p.m.—Fort Walla Walla Museum and L’Ecole No. 41 Winery host Lewis and Clark Living History and Westside Fest with live music, wine and local food trucks.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tickets are available for the All In for Schools luncheon on Sept. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. at Lincoln High School’s historic gym at 614 S. Third Ave, with a $40 fee that will support student field trips and outdoor experiences; school leaders will share details and student performers will present a skit—tickets can be purchased now.  Union-Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whitney's Law is sparking debate in Washington after a missing child case did not meet the strict Amber Alert criteria used today. An online petition with over 6,000 signatures calls for the alert system to be revised to better protect children.  KONA
  • Early results from Tuesday show that county voters approved a plan to raise the sales tax by 0.2% for emergency dispatch services with 5,978 yes votes and 3,409 no votes. WESCOM Dispatch Center manager Esther Click—who said the extra money will help buy backup systems and update aging equipment—said the tax will be collected in 2026 though benefits may not be seen until 2027.  Union-Bulletin
