  • Seven well-known retail chains have closed in Washington—shifting the retail landscape as economic changes and bankruptcies force familiar brands to depart. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stephanie Cole stepped down from District 3 to serve as the district’s food services director, and the school board is now accepting applications from those interested — letters of interest must be submitted by Friday, Aug. 15 as candidates will be interviewed at the 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 meeting with the selected member serving until the November election.  Union-Bulletin

  • U.S. Sen. Patty Murray met with Eastern Washington health providers in Walla Walla on Aug. 7 to discuss Medicaid cuts under the Big Beautiful Bill Act that could force rural hospitals to cut services and face rising uncompensated costs—officials from Planned Parenthood, the Columbia County Public Hospital District and the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic warned that patients may lose coverage as hospital strain grows.  Union-Bulletin
