  • The Chamber is starting a Community Concierge volunteer program and hosting several events to build local connections—these include a Chamber After Hours with the Library on Aug. 26, a policy session at the Regional Airport on Aug. 12, and a Speed Connecting event at the Marcus Whitman Hotel on Oct. 7. BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Blue Mountain Community Foundation is accepting applications for its 2025 community grant program for eligible nonprofits and churches in Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield and Umatilla counties — selected applicants will receive a grant of $20,000 to support projects while applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.  Union-Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wheat farmers in the Walla Walla Valley reported that the 2025 soft white wheat harvest was 50% complete as of July 29 with high-quality yields averaging 10.5% protein. Rising costs, low global prices, and reduced federal wheat donations — including higher labor and fertilizer expenses — may force them to rely on new technology to remain viable.  Union-Bulletin
