- ➤ On August 12, a log truck crashed into a WSDOT vehicle on Highway 12 near Waitsburg due to improper passing—logs scattered on the road and blocked it for hours while the driver sustained minor injuries and faces charges. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ On Tuesday afternoon, a logging truck struck a WSDOT Maintenance truck near Waitsburg on Highway 12, causing a spill of logs and heavy damage to the WSDOT truck’s nose—no serious injuries were reported. KONA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Voters in the Athena-Weston School District will vote in November on a $15.2 million bond to fund improvements at Athena and Weston campuses, including a new gym + science building and classroom renovations to support a grade reconfiguration, with the bond replacing the one that expires next June. If approved, taxpayers will pay $2.86 per $1,000 of property value and the district will receive nearly $10.2 million from a state matching program, boosting total funds to over $25 million. - ➤ On Aug 12, a public forum at the Walla Walla Regional Airport terminal examined how new legislative tax changes forced businesses to relocate from Washington—resulting in fewer jobs and impacting local suppliers.
