  • On Aug. 19, over 200 children and families in Walla Walla gathered in the Valle Lindo community for a back-to-school event where Leyzer Cutz, Akin, and local partners provided free haircuts, backpacks filled with school supplies, meals, and hygiene kits—raffles also offered prizes like bikes and soccer balls. Local organizers held the event in response to the closure of after-school programs and plan more community support activities in the future.  Union-Bulletin

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 20, officers responded to a loud pop near an apartment on west Maple Street and arrested a teenager who reportedly discarded a firearm after a bullet narrowly missed neighbors—he now faces charges including possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession, reckless endangerment, and being a minor in possession of alcohol.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Walla Walla police arrested a man after a SWAT team responded early Thursday morning to east Chestnut Street when he allegedly broke into his relative's home and attacked her, causing serious facial injuries and prompting charges of attempted murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, felony harassment, and violation of a protection order—he was taken to jail.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Today, Walla Walla County Emergency Management’s director Chris Lee and coordinator Patrick Purcell asked residents to sign up for the county's alert system—officials said advanced warnings help people gather supplies and avoid last-minute evacuations. Officials noted that only about 5,500 of over 62,000 residents have registered and are working to reach more households, including Spanish speakers.  Union-Bulletin
  • Walla Walla County Emergency Management is asking residents to sign up for an alert system to get early warnings about natural emergencies.
