- ➤ Kevin Rivera, a College Place man aged 28, was arrested on Aug.21 in Walla Walla after he did not leave a woman's home and is accused of strangling her; he faces four felony charges including attempted first-degree murder and will be arraigned today with bail set at $500,000. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Tylor Abel—father of three and a Waitsburg High School graduate from 2002—has been chosen as the District 3 member of the Waitsburg School Board after Stephanie Cole stepped down in early August to become the district’s food services director. He works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and plans to use his STEM background to support local students. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ Athena-Weston Elementary will run an after-school program from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Athena Elementary School for $60 a week—offering homework help, play activities, snacks and garden time—and it is organized by the school district and Athena Christian Church to give families safe, affordable care.
