Blue Mountain Action Council is collecting donations to supply 13,000 weekend meal kits for elementary students during the 2026-27 school year in Southeast Washington & Walla Walla.
Donations come in tiers starting at $28 per month and are matched up to $5,000 to help fight weekend hunger in the community.
Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days will run Sept.
2-6 at the fairgrounds, offering a rock concert (Wed 7 p.m.), rodeo shows Friday through Sunday, a demolition derby on Thursday, and a large parade Saturday at 10 a.m. Daily attractions include carnival rides, lumberjack, magic shows and more.

Seattle Times Co. announced the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin printing press will close on Tuesday, Sept.
15 (resulting in 10 job losses) while the print edition continues with Lewiston Tribune printing on its regular Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday schedule at 112 S. First Ave.
🌲 Environment
Firefighters made progress on the Paradise and Hagen fires as evacuation orders were reduced for areas near Mill Creek Watershed and in the Umatilla County National Forest after cooler temperatures on Friday helped keep fire activity low.
