- ➤ Business notes show that Gesa Credit Union launches a fundraiser to fight food insecurity by matching donations up to $25,000 for Food Lifeline and Second Harvest starting Monday, Sept. 1. Pine Cone Creamery raised $549 for Blue Mountain Humane Society and the YWCA Walla Walla will hold a support event for domestic violence survivors on Sept. 4—registration is due by Sept. 2. - ➤ Walla Wallan artist Sharon Kaufman-Osborn will present her Cut and Paste mosaic show at CAVU Cellars from Sept. 1-30, where she transforms broken china and found objects into three-dimensional art pieces—her reception is scheduled for Sept. 5 from 5-7 p.m. in the tasting room. Union-Bulletin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Whitman College’s $75.1 million new Junior-Senior Village was delayed from its August 29 move-in due to inspection issues and construction setbacks—students have been moved to alternate housing until the project meets safety standards. College officials said move-ins will occur in phases later this month while affected students receive refunds for room and board and Flex Dollars as compensation. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ A test on Aug. 25th found harmful blue-green algae in the lake at McNary Wildlife Refuge near Burbank and officials said the water is unsafe; they warned residents to avoid contact and to rinse off immediately if exposure occurs—seeking help if symptoms develop. Union-Bulletin
