Good morning, Walla Walla. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 5th of September.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Ferguson is reviewing a new federal tax-credit scholarship program that could let families choose private schools or boost public school resources, and he must decide if Washington will opt in by January 2027 * some critics call it a voucher program even though it uses only private funds.  KONA
  • Walla Walla Public Schools finished a $15.2M project at Blue Devil Stadium on Sept. 3 — the outdoor athletic facilities now include new artificial turf, lights, bleachers, a track throwing area and a resurfaced track. The work was made possible by a voter approved levy and LTGO bonds that shortened the construction schedule to 18 months.  Union-Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Relamation released its September water forecast noting that senior water rights will receive full allocations while junior rights get 40% amid slight rain improvements—reservoir storage in the Yakima basin remains low at 20% full with 218,000 acre-feet, which signals ongoing challenges for Mid Columbia and SE WA irrigators.  KONA
