EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local schools have been urged to hold Constitution Day events on Sept. 17 to teach students about the Constitution amid growing national divides—education officials and the Cathy McMorris Rodgers Leadership Institute will support programs that meet federal requirements. This push aims to strengthen civic understanding as many schools offer only minimal observances. KONA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting October 1, the annual Discover Pass will cost $45 and gives unlimited access to over 100 state parks, 350 recreation sites and 700 water access spots that help pay for park upkeep. The revenue will support facility improvements and ongoing maintenance in natural areas. KONA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mead and Hunt Engineers found that the subbase of the World War II-era north apron at Walla Walla Regional Airport did not meet standards, so the Port reclassified the project as a reconstruction effort—its cost increased by about $90,000. Additional work includes environmental reviews and stormwater drainage improvements—next steps that will follow FAA and National Historic Preservation guidelines. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Gooder Foods has recalled 5 lots of Vegan Is Believin’ and 3 lots of Here Comes Truffle due to undeclared milk and cashews—Washington consumers are advised not to eat the affected products and to return them for a refund. The recalled lots were produced between April 7 and April 15. KONA
