- ➤ Today the Walla Walla Community Council is leading a project to expand high-speed internet access across Walla Walla and Columbia counties as federal funding cuts left rural areas underserved. - ➤ On September 14, Blue Mountain Humane Society hosted a pet adoption event at Walla Walla Toyota where 24 pets, 12 cats + 12 dogs, found new homes as sponsors and community partners covered the adoption fees. Apple Valley News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ OSPI data showed 71% of eighth- and tenth-graders passed reading while 63% passed math, indicating slight improvements but scores remain below pre-pandemic levels. Superintendent Chris Reykdal said the state will ask lawmakers for $10 million during the 2026 session to help students who need extra support—while debates continue over education funding and DEI efforts. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced that work resumed today on Myra Road South Extension and Howard Street improvement projects—paused in early August due to a labor dispute. Crews will finish these projects by mid-October as they install sidewalks, pave asphalt, stripe lanes, add signage, and close Taumarson and Highland Road starting tomorrow. Apple Valley News Now
