- ➤ Drivers in Washington are paying the highest gas prices in the nation at $4.66 per gallon as a new carbon tax increase and a major pipeline shutdown drive up costs; in Benton County, gas averages $4.46 per gallon while AAA reports a national average of $3.19. Experts say prices may drop in coming weeks as demand eases and cheaper winter gasoline is introduced. KONA

- ➤ Two board members from Walla Walla North County Fire filed as candidates for the new regional authority board—Steve Hoffmann for Position 1 and Eric Cochran for Position 2—during a special filing period that ended on Sept. 10; they will face no challengers on the ballot when voting starts on Oct. 17. - ➤ Washington State Labor and Industries announced Tuesday (September 16th) that it proposed a 4.9 percent workers comp rate increase for 2026 to offset rising benefit and medical costs; the hike would add about $1.37 weekly for the average worker and public comment sessions will be held in October (28th, 29th, 30th).
