  • This weekend, local venues host multiple autumn events as Walla Walla Valley welcomes fall—Burwood Brewing and Hop Thief offer Oktoberfest parties with food, live music, and games, Foundry Vineyards celebrates the Concrete Mama podcast with an art show and fundraiser, downtown marks Adam West Day with tours and a Batmobile display, and Hayshaker Farm holds a Fall Equinox Party.  Union-Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in Washington are paying the highest gas prices in the nation at $4.66 per gallon as a new carbon tax increase and a major pipeline shutdown drive up costs; in Benton County, gas averages $4.46 per gallon while AAA reports a national average of $3.19. Experts say prices may drop in coming weeks as demand eases and cheaper winter gasoline is introduced.  KONA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two board members from Walla Walla North County Fire filed as candidates for the new regional authority board—Steve Hoffmann for Position 1 and Eric Cochran for Position 2—during a special filing period that ended on Sept. 10; they will face no challengers on the ballot when voting starts on Oct. 17.  Union-Bulletin
  • Washington State Labor and Industries announced Tuesday (September 16th) that it proposed a 4.9 percent workers comp rate increase for 2026 to offset rising benefit and medical costs; the hike would add about $1.37 weekly for the average worker and public comment sessions will be held in October (28th, 29th, 30th).  KONA
