- ➤ This weekend, visitors in the Valley can enjoy four throwback events — a Milton-Freewater Drive-in Theater customer appreciation night on Friday and Saturday featuring Top Gun and E.T. with giveaways and bouncy houses; a free Frenchtown Rendezvous on Saturday with cabin tours, games, and a community potluck; a Harry Potter celebration at Dragon’s Gate Brewery on Saturday with food trucks and vendors; and a Living History event at Fort Walla Walla Museum with reenactments on Saturday and Sunday. - ➤ Walla Walla VFW Post 992 announced it will sell its current property at 102 N. Colville St. and form a transition committee to find a more affordable space as the club faces high maintenance costs—Post Commander Alex Hall said operations will continue until Nov. 30 while real estate firms are being contacted. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School districts in Walla Walla and Kennewick are using new bus driver recruitment and retention plans — strategies aimed at solving the bus driver shortage. Officials say these actions will help maintain bus service for students. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ WSU Tri-Cities saw its enrollment rise by 8.1% this fall to 1,609 students, with first-time enrollment up 11.1% for the third year in a row—while other WSU campuses experienced declines. Officials credit local high school outreach and interest from areas like Walla Walla for the growth. KONA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nickolas Ward—a Clarkston resident and former deputy prosecutor—was chosen by Columbia County commissioners as interim prosecuting attorney to finish Dale Slack's term, and he will start on Nov. 1. He said he plans to open his office to the public and run for the full position in 2026. Union-Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ AquaStar and Kroger have recalled frozen shrimp due to potential radioactive Cesium-137 contamination—affected products were sold from June 12 to September 17 in stores such as Walmart and other chains. KONA
- ➤ The American Red Cross will hold blood donation drives in Walla Walla and College Place from Oct.3 to Oct.15 — donors will receive a $10 Amazon gift card when donating blood, platelets, or plasma. They will need to bring a donor ID and the organization will especially need donations from people with O positive and B negative blood. Union-Bulletin
