BUSINESS NEWS

  • Everen Wines now welcomes guests to its new tasting room, which opened on July 10 on a 10-acre property with views of the Blue Mountains. The space—designed with a cozy living room feel and a bocce ball court—hosts daily wine tastings and events aimed at pairing wines with fresh, local produce.  Union-Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire that began north of Prescott at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 burned 1,500 acres before coming under control — county official Chris Lee confirmed — and all level 1 evacuation orders have been lifted near Badger Hollow Road and Smith Springs Road.  Union-Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Howard Street has been closed since April after workers paved and striped the road—part of a repair project from Juniper Street to Bryant Avenue. Signage, streetlights and landscaping are being added—work continues and the road will reopen in mid-October when final tasks are finished.  Union-Bulletin
  • The Waitsburg City Council voted on Sept. 24 to convert the old community pool site into a synthetic ice rink that will be free for skaters. The project receives a $102,000 grant and $20,000 in city funds—plans call for the rink to open by the Waitsburg Hometown Christmas Celebration to boost downtown activity.  Union-Bulletin
  • Two former mayors will moderate a public forum on Oct. 2 at the Walla Walla Community College Health Science and Performing Arts building at 500 Tausick Way. The event covers races for College Place City Council Positions 1 and 3 and Walla Walla City Council Positions 1, 2 and 3 — doors open at 6 p.m. and it runs from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.  Union-Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Despite new federal restrictions, local pharmacies still offer COVID booster shots to residents 6 months and older without a prescription—Dr. Krager said vaccine supplies may change week to week and advised calling Safeway or Walgreens to confirm availability while insurance and Medicaid cover the cost.  Union-Bulletin
