- ➤ The Walla Walla Community Council will host a free digital resource fair on Oct. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Walla Walla Community College where residents can get help from internet service providers, digital experts and community organizations—featuring resource tables, door prizes and computer safety tips. - ➤ The Washington State Lowriders Car Club will show the free documentary Roll Modelz at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Milton-Freewater Drive-In—earlier, a car show from 3-6 p.m. will feature food trucks, dance performances, games and a lowrider art exhibit. Union-Bulletin
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Starting in January 2026, stores will charge 12 cents for reusable plastic bags while paper bags remain at 8 cents under RCW 70A.530—shoppers using food assistance programs are exempt from the fee. KONA

- ➤ Federal workers in the area have faced disruptions as the government shutdown that began on Oct 2 halted federal office operations—employees are now waiting for updates on pay and services. The shutdown is affecting local access to essential federal support. Apple Valley News Now
- ➤ Henry Contreras faces $11,275 in fines under a new ordinance that requires anyone who writes chalk messages on downtown sidewalks to clean them up by sundown—he received 11 infraction notices and has 30 days to pay or contest the fines. Union-Bulletin
