- ➤ Tabitha’s Closet will open its new store on Tuesday, Oct 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 1443 Pine St.—United Way of the Blue Mountains now manages a program that gives affordable and no-cost formal and professional clothing to students and community members after five years of home-based service. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students began moving into Harvey Hall at Whitman College’s new Junior-Senior Village on Sept. 28th — the building features solar panels, energy-saving appliances and high-efficiency fixtures that cut water use. The $75.1-million project adds 200 beds, with two more buildings set to open in October and a dedication planned for November as the college recycles construction waste and restores College Creek. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla will host a town hall on Oct 14 to let residents ask questions about the Tiger-Mill project in the Mill Creek Watershed; citizens are urged to submit queries online before Oct 7 — these questions will shape a letter that the City Council will review on Nov 5 — for forwarding to the U.S. Forest Service. - ➤ On Oct. 2, candidates from Walla Walla and College Place City Councils met at Walla Walla Community College to discuss housing, jobs, government efficiency, and infrastructure concerns. They shared plans to boost economic growth and improve local services—matters that will shape their future work if elected. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ Walla Walla Community Development Block Grant Coordinator Lydia Caudill will host a workshop on Oct. 8 from 9 to 10 a.m. at City Hall located at 15 N. Third Ave — the session will provide an overview of the CDBG program and answer questions from potential applicants with Zoom access also available. Union-Bulletin
