EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln High School will be transformed into an interactive puzzle room for a free Halloween event organized by Lincoln and Whitman College students during the weekend before Halloween — visitors will solve puzzles to reassemble scrambled Grimm fairy tale endings. Student actors and volunteers have developed a forest-themed storyline that includes a twist on a witch’s house narrative — teams of two to six people can join while donations help cover costs.  Union-Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington's Climate Commitment Act stays in effect after the Supreme Court declined to hear a legal challenge, confirming the law's strength in reducing carbon pollution and funding clean energy projects. The cap-and-trade program has generated nearly $3.5 billion since January — showing ongoing support for state climate measures.  KONA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Waitsburg Parks and Recreation District approved and submitted a levy resolution to Walla Walla County seeking 60 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value for the November ballot. This measure will help fund a new pool facility near the Waitsburg Dog Park—Old Mill site, with project cost details expected later this month.  Waitsburg Times
  • The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs will host two veterans events on Oct.22 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 992 at 102 N. Colville St.—a Women’s Forum from 8:30-9:30 a.m. to discuss the needs of women veterans and a town hall from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to provide updates on VA programs.  Union-Bulletin
  • College Place Mayor Norma Hernandez and the City Council will host a public meet-and-greet today with four city administrator finalists (Roxanne Miles, Blaine Oborn, Rosylen Oglesby and Troy Rayburn) before panel interviews on Oct. 10. Community members will share their feedback to help choose the city administrator who will guide the city's future growth.  Union-Bulletin

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Common Roots Housing Trust will hold two affordable homeownership sessions—one at Waitsburg Town Hall on October 22nd at 5 p.m. and one at Pioneer United Methodist Church on October 28th at 5:30 p.m.—to show how its community land trust model will lower home costs by letting buyers pay only for the house at about $200,000 with a near $1,000 monthly payment. The sessions will also cover the eligibility process and offer financial counseling for first-time buyers and renters.  Waitsburg Times
