EDUCATION NEWS

  • Voters in the Athena-Weston School District will vote on Tuesday, Nov. 4 on a $15.2 million bond that will fund a new gym, classrooms and facility upgrades — the bond will cost taxpayers $2.86 per $1,000 of assessed value over 16 years. If approved, matching funds will raise the total to more than $25.4 million.  Union-Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross will host several blood and platelet drives in the Walla Walla Valley from Oct. 27 to Nov. 16—donors will receive $20 e-gift cards and entry for a chance to win $5,000 prizes, and those donating in November will also get a free A1C test during National Diabetes Awareness Month.  Union-Bulletin
